Inspiration for hunters: become the face of a future-oriented hunt

At a time when support for hunting is not self-evident, local stories can make the difference. That is why we highlight a special initiative on our blog: a Facebook group where hunters and wildlife management units from all over the Netherlands share inspiring examples of information and promotion around hunting.

Whether it’s lectures, interviews, newspaper articles or collaborations, this group is the place where you get ideas, exchange experiences and learn what to look out for when you start something yourself.

Do you want to help build a correct and honest picture of hunting in your region?

Join the Facebook group via this LINK and discover how this group connects, strengthens and inspires hunters.
Read the info from the Facebook group below:

As a hunter and wildlife management unit (WBE), we will all have to contribute to information about and promotion of hunting in our own environment if we want to increase support for hunting. This group was set up to share initiatives in this area with each other so that others can be inspired by these examples and also take these kinds of initiatives themselves.
Fortunately, some hunters and wbe’s are already doing a lot in this area. By sharing these examples here, information can also be exchanged about what you need to take into account if you want to set something up yourself, what pitfalls are and ultimately how you can be effective in this. Examples that we want to collect here are newspaper articles, press releases, interviews, collaborations, lectures, information meetings and other activities that have been developed by hunters and wbe’s, etc.
This group is positive about hunting in the Netherlands and wants to contribute to promotion and information at regional and local level. You can get inspiration here, find examples, make contacts with others who have experience in this field and gain energy to become active in this area yourself and thus contribute to information and promotion of hunting in your own environment.
CAUTION! Communication about hunting, no matter how well-intentioned, can sometimes turn out wrong or, consciously or not, be misinterpreted. It is therefore very important that when you, as a hunter or wbe, are approached by the media with questions or to participate in an article or performance, you get a clear picture in advance in which context the interview or item is placed or used.
In any case, when you cooperate, it makes sense to use a few basic principles:
  1. Leave your gun at home! It must be about the total story of the hunt and not just about that small part of it; shoot. If pressure is put on taking your gun with you, it gives a clear signal what they are after and is a good reason to reconsider your cooperation.
  2. Be honest and pure. Speak from your passion and conviction and try not to get bogged down in beautiful, preconceived sentences.
  3. Don’t be tempted to make statements about exact numbers or numbers. Figures are open to different interpretations and strongly depend on variable criteria and backgrounds.
  4. Stick to your own story and don’t be tempted to make statements about topics you don’t feel comfortable with or don’t have enough knowledge about.
