Hunting Education – Practical Exam Retake

All about the practice exam retake.

Practice Exam Retake

A retake is available, and it is through the Netherlands – Flora and Fauna Act Examinations Foundation.

With the following advantages

  • Practical exam, valid for your Belgian Hunting Permit
  • Based on your Belgian Theory exam
  • Costs a little more, but good guidance
  • Exam dates as early as early May 2020, retake in September 2020 (Enrollment Closing Date July 1, 2020)
  • Safe handling and shooting test, with retake of the shooting test the day itself

Procedure

Hunting sought and found the procedure, at the suggestion of several Hunting members who took their Practical Examination through this route.
Below is their account:

Registration

Registration through Flora and Fauna Act Examination Foundation from May 1, 2020 to July 1, 2020.

Shooting initiation

Upon registration you will receive a course booklet, where you must obtain stamps at recognized shooting ranges in the Netherlands to guarantee so-called safe rifle handling. For this you must have shot at least 6 series of clay pigeons (series of 25 rounds) and 4 series of bullets (series of 4 rounds).

There are also 3 refresher days planned with real hunting situations: a forest hunt for foot and a drift hunt posted on a pasture.

Hunting Practice

The exam itself, hunting practice, can be compared to Belgium. There is only a Parcours (Safe handling) through a simulation of a small game drive hunt. Distances must also be estimated. However, there are NO tents there (so no Knowledge of weapons and ammunition).

After passing this section, the shooting tests follow.

Clay Shooting

The clay shooting is a little more difficult than ours though, you have to shoot 18 out of 25 pigeons.

  • incoming: 7 clays – 7th on shot
  • descending: 7 clays – 7th on shot
  • rabbit – 5 clays
  • left transverse – 3 clays
  • right transverse – 3 clays

You may load only 1 cartridge per pigeon, only with the combination 6-7 on shot, you may load 2 cartridges.

However, here, in case of a fail on the shooting test (but at least 14 hits), a retake is possible on the day.

Bullet Shooting

Bird shooting is quite simple

  • 2 times 2 bullet (heavy caliber)
  • Target at 100 meters
  • 4 hits within circle of 20 cm and 3 of the 4 hits within a disc of 15cm
  • Obviously, you must have handled the rifle safely in this section as well.

Practical

You also know immediately after each section that you have passed, this is communicated immediately.

Do keep in mind that the exam is more expensive than ours. 351€ for the practical + the cost of bullet and clay pigeon shooting during the exam day. There will also be a refresher day, +-150€, recommended, to have a good idea of how things work.

Perhaps a bit more impractical is that you effectively have to go to Dutch shooting ranges to get the stamps. But then again, there is just a little better teaching there.
