The white-fronted goose is clearly smaller than the reed goose. It does not breed in our regions, but does reside here as a winter visitor.
Except in young birds, the dark or black stripes on the belly are a distinctive feature.
The white-fronted goose is a noisy bird and the clear, almost laughing call is unmistakable as they fly high overhead. On the ground, they bestially chat to each other. The white-fronted goose gets its name from its distinguishing feature: the white ring at the base of the bill which resembles a cola. Young birds do not yet have this cola.
