Biodiversity Tower

A great idea to place a biodiversity tower under a hunting gantry. This will accommodate numerous animal species that will find a nest or roost there: hedgehogs, spiders, moths, bees, birds, bats, …

Salt Pile

A simple but very efficient way to bring salt or other minerals to wildlife is the installation of a Salt Pile.

One starts with a debarked log, preferably smooth wood. A hole is made above the log into which the salt block is inserted. A groove is cut at the bottom of this hole so that the salt can flow out from the hole. If necessary, several more saw cuts are made to allow the salt to flow downward.

The recording is done by licking up the salt that melts from the rain and runs along the pole from the salt post.

Transfer Ladder

On quite a few reviers there are different environments and crops, forest, fields but also meadows. And the ideal hunting lines usually just run through these. Therefore, here and there an interchange ladder is needed to get over the meadow fences. Below is a simple design that can be placed anywhere (preferably at a sturdy corner stake). The only supplies are two sturdy stakes for the trees and shorter pieces for the rungs. These are used along both sides of the fence to get up and back down.

Bridge

A moat between two plots of land can easily be bridged with a railroad girder. However, during the hunting season, due to moisture and moss present, it is usually slippery, and therefore dangerous. This can be remedied by applying chicken wire mesh. When stepping over the little bridge, the mesh is pressed into the wood and provides a safe passage.

Small game feeding site

Feeders for Pheasants and Partridges are usually placed just next to cover and, if possible, also easily accessible. Suggestion here is to move these feeders regularly. Quite a few diseases and pests remain present around a feeding area and moving them around brings the birds back to a “clean” environment.

Green manure – wildlife corridors

The plots with winter green manure (mustard, winter cereals) are an excellent cover for small game. Not only pheasant and partridge, but also hare. A small improvement here is to have corridors in these plots mowed by the farmer. This gives an excellent opportunity to the game to let feathers or hair dry in the sun. But also gives an advantage for hunting, an overview when changing, and an easier path for the perhaps slightly older fellow hunter.

Nesting box Tits

The roe deer often suffer terribly from throat hornets. The tits love the eggs of the throat hornets, preventing the deer from weakening. Below is a simple construction diagram for a nest box for Tits.

Supplies for a nest box

board 1.5 m long, 15 cm wide and 15 mm thick
nails, hammer and saw
piece of rubber (old bicycle tire) measuring 12 by 8 cm.

The diagram shows you how to saw the board. Measure and draw it neatly first, and mark on your board which part it is. In the front you need to cut a hole with a diameter of 28 mm. The hole should be 12 cm from the bottom. Drill a hole first, and then cut out the hole with a jigsaw or scroll saw.

Carpenter the birdhouse according to the drawing below. Start with the bottom. Carpenter the sides and front to it, and then do the back. The sides come under the roof, not next to it (this prevents damage from the rain). At the end comes the roof. Remember that the roof should not be bolted on, but should be open. This is so that it can be cleaned in the fall. This is what the rubber strip is for. Fix it as in the drawing with 6 nails. The strip is then a kind of hinge.

High seat – wind rose

A wind rose on the high seat. As an indication for your guests, so they can follow your directions where the other high seats are and where the switches are.

High seat – nesting box

As is well known, tits are good for the revier. Among other things, they keep the deer’s throat hornet under control. Particular fun then is to build a nesting box in the high perch. Nice as entertainment during the long wait.
