Hunting – Hunting methods

All about the ways to hunt.

Hunting methods

Hunting can be done in different ways:

For the foot

Alone, with your dog, or with your hunting company. Track down the game and if it flies or walks you can shoot it.
Mainly for small game.

  • Synonyms: A la Botte

Bear hunting

The counterpart of big game (roe deer, deer, wild boar) is Bear hunting, where the hunters sneak up on the game to get close enough to shoot it.

  • Synonyms: Stealth hunting, à l’approche (Fr), stalking (En), Pirsch (D)

Sit-in hunting

Hunting method where the hunters sit down on a high seat or pulpit and wait for the game to come within shooting distance.

  • Synonyms: Lurk Hunt

Drive hunt

Hunting method where the hunters are permanently stationed on a line, the trackers knock (manhunt) in the bushes to drive the game towards the hunters. Usually the game is only shot when it has crossed the hunter’s line and has therefore left the “track”.

  • Synonyms: Manhunt

This can also be done with the help of dogs

Pressure hunt

Hunting method in which a few guns are stationed, usually even on the Hoogzit, and where the drivers force the game to move. The intention is to get the game moving via the well-known switches (no flight or startle reaction). The normal high seats, along these switches, can therefore be used. In some pressure hunts, it may be that guns are berthing along in the track.

Boiler hunt

Boiler hunting Hunting method, used in large hunting areas where the hunters hunt in a circle towards the center, from a certain point only outside the circle is fired.

Ferretting

Ferretting Hunting method with the ferret. The rabbit burrows are cordoned off with nets or bolts. The ferret is stuffed, the rabbit runs into the bumps and caught, or walks away and is shot.

Falconry

The Falconry is done with a Stootvogel, a trained Bird of Prey
