The Garmin Alpha system is built around a simple but powerful principle: a handheld with which you track and manage your dogs, and one or more collars that transmit the position (and possibly training) of the dog. Below, we’ll briefly explain how the Alpha 300, Alpha 200 Plus, T20 and TT25 work together, and what the main differences are.

How does the Garmin Alpha system work?

The handheld (Alpha 300 or Alpha 200 Plus) receives the position of the dogs wearing a compatible GPS collar via VHF. That position is shown on the map, along with direction, distance, and additional dog data. Depending on the collar chosen, the hunter or trainer can only follow the dog, or also train with tone, vibration or stimulation. Everything works without a mobile network and is designed for reliable use in the field.

Alpha 300

The Alpha 300 is the most comprehensive handheld in the Alpha range. It features a bright 3.5″ touchscreen, physical buttons for glove operation, and extensive navigation and mapping functions. You can track up to 20 dogs at once, manage groups, and view detailed hunting and dog data. This device is aimed at intensive and professional use.

Alpha 200 Plus

The Alpha 200 Plus is a versatile handheld that offers the same core functionality: tracking and managing multiple dogs in the field. It also has a 3.5″ touchscreen, long battery life and extensive navigation functions. Compared to the Alpha 300, it’s a little simpler, but still perfectly suited to those looking for a reliable and powerful handheld.

T20 Dog Collar

The T20 is a GPS dog tracking collar with no training stimulation. The collar transmits the dog’s position to the handheld from a long distance and works at dynamic update rates to optimize battery life. The T20 is intended for hunters who want to track their dog, but do not need training via the collar.

TT25 Dog Collar

The TT25 is a GPS and training collar that combines tracking with active training. In addition to positioning, this collar also supports stimulation, vibration and tone. This makes the TT25 suitable for those who want to make corrections or commands during work or hunting, directly from the handheld.
