What do I need as a novice hunter? You are immediately inundated with different ideas, brands and types. Every hunter, arms dealer, driver usually has his own idea or experiences with hunting products.

We list five necessities for our brand new hunters that you can’t do without. However, these products are often not purchased or purchased incorrectly. In addition, we can give a 10% discount on the items of huntingeurope.be to celebrate the new young hunters!

1. Neoprene Lined Boots

A good pair of boots is a must for any hunter. In autumn and winter, boots are almost always worn on small game hunting. But also at other times when it is wet and you have to cross ditches or puddles. But they can also be used for big game hunting. High-quality boots also have an inner lining “Neoprene”. This lining provides extra insulation and seating comfort – a necessity for a good hunting day.

2. High Boots in combination with leg protectors

For the cold big game hunts, it is better to choose good “boots”, because you usually stand still for a long time and get cold feet faster with boots. For hunting big game, we prefer high walking boots in combination with leg protectors, also called “guetres”. These high boots not only give you a comfortable sitting feeling, but also protect your feet and lower legs from the cold, when you sit still (as quietly) as a mouse.

3. Hearing protection

Hearing protection, an item that used to be little or hardly used by our old guard. Unless by our fellow clay shooters who used earplugs to protect their hearing to a minimum. Today, hearing protection is an indispensable part of hunting. Moreover, this no longer has to be a major expense. Know that hearing damage is not repairable, so use it as much as possible!

4. Seat

A chair … They come in all sizes, colors and materials. So there is something for every taste. What is essential for the hunter is the height of your seat, the size depends on your actual height. A chair that is too small is inconvenient because it is difficult to get straight and in a ready-to-shoot position. Especially on battue this is useful when things sometimes have to go very fast. A chair that is too big, on the other hand, is difficult to sit on, so you will move and can therefore scare away the game.

We recommend a 65 cm chair for people up to 180 cm. For people taller than 180 cm, we recommend a chair of 75 cm.

5. Honk

A “tour” is mandatory on many hunting areas, for example to give your neighbor the final signal with three horn blasts. That is why a horn is essential. In France, many hunting areas also use the tour to pass on signals during the battue, for example to announce game in the drift, or when you have stretched a piece of game. Moreover, the tour is an important addition to a radio because not everyone has a radio and not everyone is correctly informed due to bad weather, for example.
