Update: African swine fever

From September 2018 to December 2020, African swine fever (ASF) has strongly affected the
wild boar population in Gaume, either directly through the extremely high mortality of infected wild boar
or indirectly through the control of infected wild boar. The reason for the introduction ofAfrican swine fever in 2018 is not yet clear, but it is very likely that human activitywas the culprit in this process, as the nearest outbreak of ASF in September 2018was more than 1,000 km from our country. Today, Belgium is happy with the restored free status
status.
