EDE – Special images, captured by a wildlife camera in Ede. Three red deer run by, and then, a few seconds behind, a wolf. He or she is hot on the heels of the deer.
“Super fun, yes, these are very beautiful, unique images,” says forester Victor Nuijten. “That wolf is really on the hunt, it’s nice that a few are chasing big game.”
Whether he or she has caught a deer is anyone’s guess. “Not every hunt is successful. He has to be fast, but of course it is possible. A wolf is more likely to go after a calf, they are less quick and easier to catch.”
Prey remains of the wolf are actually rarely found, says Nuijten. “Of course, there are also animals that eat that, such as badgers, wild boars and foxes.”
Where exactly the images were made, the forester does not say. At least in the municipality of Ede, and in the previously designated habitat of the wolf that belongs to the Southwest Veluwe.
“You always have people who, if they know a location, want to look for an animal. Too often I see people walking on images from the wildlife cameras in rest areas. That is simply a disturbance of nature, they are committing an offence for which they can also be fined.”
