Two girls on horseback think they have been chased by a wolf in Waanrode (Kortenaken). In the meantime, they have been in contact with Jan Loos of welkomwolf.be. According to him, it was not a wolf: “This is not wolf behavior, that was almost certainly a dog.”

The two girls were quietly horseback riding on Sunday. Suddenly, the horses got scared and left at a gallop. “They were no longer in their normal way.”

One of the girls claims on social media that she saw a wolf jump to her horse. Then they let their horses trot straight home. According to the girls, the wolf chased them for about 100 meters, until he could no longer follow.

Wolf expert Jan Loos van welkomwolf.be had contact with one of the girls and thinks it was not a wolf. “That ‘wolf’ would have walked next to the horse and jumped up. I’ve never seen a wolf do that before.”

According to Jan Loos, there is little chance that it is the wandering wolf of Haasrode. “Those images date from December 30 and it would be strange that it stays here. Delusional may only differ two letters from Haasrode, but that wolf has long since moved on. This was probably a wolfhound, a cross between a German shepherd and a wolf or a sled dog. You can only see the difference in details and especially in behavior. A wolf would never go to horses with riders.”
