Public Health & Hygiene (Qualified Person) – 2025

Online registration
General
Since 1 September 2007, every hunter who transfers (sells or gives away) game must fill in a declaration form (form GP). In doing so, he states that the game showed normal behaviour before shooting, that the habitat was not polluted and that the first inspection of the carcass and intestines did not show any risks to public health. The ultimate goal is to guarantee the sanitary quality of the game that is placed on the market.
The European Union has drawn up a regulation for this purpose that requires hunters to follow training on the anatomy and physiology of game, game diseases, hygiene rules and the applicable legislation. This European regulation from 2004 was supplemented in Belgium by the Royal Decree of 22 December 2005 and supplementary circular of 10 October 2024 (See FASFC website for more information).
The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) is responsible for the implementation of these rules, which have been in force since 1 September 2007. The correct rules about transferring a piece of game can be found in this circular from 2024.
In order to be able to sign this declaration, the hunter must have successfully completed the training course Formation à la santé publique et à l’Hygiène in Wallonia or the Qualified Person exam in Flanders, be registered as a “Qualified Person” (GP) and have participated in the hunt in which the game was shot.
The training is provided by the Royal Saint-Hubert Club de Belgique (RSHCB). It consists of two mornings and is given by four veterinarians:
- Prof. Jean-Marie Giffroy (Université de Namur)
- Prof. Annick Linden (Université de Liège)
- Dr. Henry Pestiau
- Dr. Jean-Philippe Wauty
Participation in both sessions is mandatory. The training is concluded with an exam at the end of the second session. Only hunters who have attended both sessions are allowed to participate in the exam.
Who can follow this training?
All holders of a valid Walloon or Flemish hunting license and persons with a certificate of passing the hunting exam issued by the Walloon or Flemish government can participate.
