A new calculation of the hunting plans by Hubertus Vereniging Vlaanderen shows that Flanders has almost 930,000 ha of hunting grounds.

Ontheir own initiative, hunters coloured out almost 4,500 hectares themselves in 2020. “This indicates a tangible support for wildlife management as a method and as a way of life,” says Geert Van den Bosch, director of Hubertus Vereniging Vlaanderen (HVV), as an interest group for the hunting sector. He refers to the latest update of the hunting plans, which is published by HVV.

A hunting plan marks the area where a hunter may regularly engage in game management, and to the limits of his management activities. “The (scrapping) exercise will also be resumed in the coming years, so that in the long run the rights of both the wildlife management sector and the landowners will be respected and clearly delineated.” The colouring was greatest in East Flanders and Flemish Brabant.

“The publicity of the plans shows that wildlife management literally and figuratively has its place in Flanders.”
