A 57-year-old Dutchman from Rosmalen has to pay a fine of 10,000 euros because he was hunting in the area of she-wolf Naya on September 6, 2019. His companion of 67 years has to cough up 8,000 euros. The men were active on the military domain Camp of Beverlo in Hechtel-Eksel.
Some soldiers and the Nature and Forest Agency tracked down the duo rather by chance. With a drone they were looking for the missing Naya at dusk. They found no trace of the she-wolf, but they did see an all-terrain vehicle crossing an area where no hunting rights had been granted.
Soon they were able to hold off the Dutch. They were in possession of loaded hunting rifles, wore hunting uniform and had a thermal camera in their pocket. It has never been proven that the Dutch would have anything to do with Naya’s disappearance.
The defense disputed in vain that the perpetrators were in a forbidden area and that the weapons were not ready to shoot by stating that the weapon had not yet been manipulated to push the bullet into the barrel. It was to no avail. The younger of the two will be fined 10,000 euros and his ten years older fellow hunter from Loosbroek has to pay 8,000 euros. Together they pay for the legal costs of 660 euros. They owe compensation of 560 euros to Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen.
