According to the residents of the area where the tragedy took place, what had to happen happened. Last week, a man was killed by a bear in Slovakia for the first time.

With a tightly protected population estimated at nearly 3,000 individuals, Slovakia expected a fatal accident involving a bear at one point, as did its neighbor Romania, which records several fatal attacks each year.

A 57-year-old man died of his injuries near Ružomberok. The victim’s brother and a friend discovered the lifeless body in the mountains. Large wounds in the throat, abdomen and ribs immediately put the authorities on the trail of the herbivore.

The autopsy at the Jessenius Medical School in Martin confirmed a few days later that the man had died as a result of an attack by a bear.
