Update corona crisis: hunting and wildlife management activities. To avoid a third corona wave, the federal government has banned all ‘non-essential travel’ abroad since last week. Logical question then: do hunting activities fall under that heading? Answer: yes – this is confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Crisis Centre, as well as various lawyers to Hubertus Vereniging Vlaanderen. In other words, Belgian hunters are not allowed to go abroad, even if they have a local mandate. The ‘sworn statement’ will be insufficient to substantiate this.
This restriction applies until at least 1 March 2021.
Anyone who does travel abroad to hunt risks heavy fines, and undertakes the trip entirely at their own risk. That is why Hubertus Vereniging Vlaanderen advises to be on the safe side and stay at home.
