Waterfowl – Snipe

All about the snipe.

Snipe

Class: aves
Order: charadriformes
Family: scolopacidae
Species: capella gallinago

In case of danger, the snipe holds motionless to gain altitude in time with a very fast jump and a zigzagging flight. Meanwhile, one hears its rasping call “retsj” which is very characteristic of the species. A billy goat and pool snipe do not do this.
The brown bird (26 cm) with pale isabel-colored longitudinal stripes on the head, neck and black back, allow the bird to camouflage itself well. They breed in our country and migrate as winter approaches: migration begins as early as September. During inclement winter weather, we see the descendants searching for the last food in flowing ditches.
