There are now about three thousand wolves in Germany, considerably more than in the Netherlands. Still, it’s less of an issue there, especially since there’s a lot more space in Germany. Farmers are bothered by the animal, and sometimes take matters into their own hands.
In the German state of Lower Saxony, lights hung on the farms last week with Sint Maarten. In protest against the wolf. With candles in the windows, lanterns and large campfires, they wanted to remind politicians of their dissatisfaction. The livestock farmers believe that Germany is naïve towards the wolf, which has been welcome back in the country since the 1990s.
