The Royal Belgian Pigeon Fanciers’ Association calls on its members to keep their racing pigeons in their lofts from 18 December to 3 January, so that the hunting of feral specimens can take place without incident.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Feral pigeons are domesticated pigeons that no longer fly home and take on a life of their own. Since this species is not a native species – which does very well in urban and rural areas due to environmental factors – increasing populations are emerging. The impact they have on the racing pigeons, by disturbing them strongly, should not be underestimated. <\/p>\n

The pigeon fanciers are therefore asked to loft racing pigeons from 18 December to 3 January. During that time, hunters and special field rangers are called upon to realize the shooting of feral pigeons. <\/p>\n

Use of the firearm for the shooting of feral pigeons is permitted under the following conditions:<\/p>\n

\u2022 You are in possession of a valid hunting permit, another firearms permit is not sufficient;
\n\u2022 The weapon you use is a weapon registered for hunting;
\n\u2022 The use of lead and zinc gunshot is prohibited;
\n\u2022 You can only shoot feral pigeons on areas where you have the right to hunt. No shooting is possible on other sites. Not even with a report of control;<\/x>\u2022 You have a legal reason to be on the field with the rifle. This is particularly the case if the shooting takes place during hunting or the control of other species in accordance with the hunting legislation\/the Species Decree.
\n\u2013 Shooting ringed pigeons is prohibited.
\n\u2013 Shooting within 150 meters in the direction of homes and buildings is prohibited.
\n\u2013 Use of methods other than those applicable to hunting (e.g. traps, poison, etc.) are not eligible for this promotion.
\n\u2013 Pigeons that are stretched during these actions may not be marketed under any circumstances.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
